I started Somryst and Sleep Reset at the same time.  Sleep Reset worked better for me of the 2 programs. I started having insomnia several years ago due to work-related stress.  The stress resolved but by that time my body had become habituated to waking during the night for several hours.  I’ve tried lots of different things including exercise and melatonin to help but realized I needed a structured program. I have dealt with sleeping issues for many years. It seemed like the only time I could get a decent sleep was by taking sleeping pills. However, my body had become immune to the pills, so I felt hopeless. It took my forever to fall asleep, and I would wake up many times each night. I would lay in bed, frustrated that I’m not able to fall back asleep. This resulted in only getting around 3-5 hours of sleep each night. I ended up reading a book (Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker) which talked about scientific methods to getting natural sleep. I was so intrigued with the possibility that these scientific methods could work for me. It is called CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia). Long story short, I experimented with the sleep reset program to see if implementing these behavioral changes would have any impact on my sleep. Here are my results…I can now fall asleep in under 5 minutes after laying in bed. I still wake up occasionally throughout the night, but I can fall back asleep so quickly. On average, I now get between 6-8 hours of sleep each night. I LOVE this program, as it really has changed my life. I spend 1/3 of my life sleeping. The quality of that 1/3 of my life directly impacts the quality of the remaining 2/3 of my life. I have two small children and have more or less woken up every night in the middle f the night since the first was born 8 years ago.  I wasn’t stressed, or didn’t think I was, I was just very awake. After 8 years of that, 7 years of my friend Ambien (a low dose but still), I just decided I was sick of this crazy sleep pattern. My doctor sent me to a neurologist who recommended CBT-I and sleep restriction therapy (which I thought sounded terrible) then I stumbled upon Sleep Reset and decided to give it a try.

Sleep restriction therapy is no joke. I had some very hard and tired days.  I’d progress a bit and then fall back to my normal ways. I got really frustrated and a bit pissy.  I definitely started drinking coffee in the morning to counter the sleepiness. But my sleep reset couch, Maria, was super helpful and encouraging in those moments and helped me celebrate when I started to actually sleep through the night.  It really took me 9-10 weeks (which felt like an eternity) to be sleeping regularly through the night, but that is after 8 years of waking up, deeply engrained habits.  

You have to be patient and disciplined and very positive and believe you can do it even when you really don’t think you can.  But now I fall asleep within 5 minutes always, but I also never get in bed before I’m really sleepy. I don’t get much more than 6 hours at this point but I’ve also discovered that a solid 5 3/4 hours is actually pretty good for me. It’s big to change something like this but the positive effects ripple into other aspects of your life, so it’s worth the time and effort.  Good luck!  Sleeping is hard sometimes but Sleep Reset really does help if you work at it.

My doctor has been suggesting I do a “sleep study” for insomnia for almost a year but I never wanted to because it sounded like a huge hassle.
